INSAT-3DS Soars: ISRO launches Satellite with GSLV Rocket

ISRO successfully launches INSAT-3DS Satellite atop GSLV Rocket

India's space agency, ISRO, achieved another milestone as its INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite was launched aboard a GSLV rocket from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. This mission marked the 16th launch for the GSLV rocket, successfully deploying the INSAT-3DS into its designated orbit.

Mission objectives and achievements

The primary goal of the INSAT-3DS mission is to uphold the continuous services provided by the operational INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR satellites. It aims to enhance meteorological observations, monitor land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning, and offer Satellite Aided Search and Rescue Services. ISRO Chairman S Somanath applauded the team's efforts and confirmed the successful deployment of the satellite's solar panels, ensuring its functionality in space.

Payloads and future endeavors

The INSAT-3DS satellite is equipped with advanced payloads to fulfill its objectives. These include an Imager and Sounder for meteorological observations, communication payloads such as the Data Relay Transponder (DRT), and capabilities for data collection and dissemination from Data Collection Platforms (DCPs). Additionally, the SAS&R Transponder plays a crucial role in relaying distress signals and aiding in search and rescue operations.

ISRO's future mission, NISAR, a collaborative effort with NASA, remains on schedule. NISAR, short for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, is an Earth-observing mission that utilizes two radars to observe a wide range of changes on Earth's surface. This joint mission aims to enhance observational capabilities beyond what a single radar could achieve, contributing to advancements in Earth sciences and environmental monitoring.
